IT Help for Non-Tech Users: How I Help
Technology can be frustrating – especially when you’re not familiar with it. I help people who aren’t “computer experts” patiently and clearly.
Why IT Help for Beginners & Seniors?
After years as an IT system administrator, I’ve realized: The biggest challenge is not the technology – but the communication.
The problem:
- IT technicians speak in jargon
- Many don’t dare to ask (“there are no stupid questions!”)
- Fear of breaking something
- Time pressure – “quick, quick”
My approach:
✅ Patience instead of rush – we take our time
✅ Understandable language – no “reboot,” just “restart”
✅ Show instead of do – you do it yourself (with my guidance)
✅ Home visits possible – at your home in familiar surroundings
What I Help With
💻 Computer & Laptop
Typical requests:
- “My computer has become so slow”
- “I want a new laptop – which should I buy?”
- “How do I install a program?”
- “Windows updates scare me”
What I do:
- Setup from scratch (Windows, programs, printer)
- Clean up & speed up (remove unnecessary software)
- Purchase advice (which device suits you?)
- Install programs (Office, PDF reader, etc.)
- Backup data (photos, documents to external drive)
Example: A customer had 47 (!) programs installed that she never used. After cleaning up, her 8-year-old laptop was fast again.
📱 Smartphone & Tablet
Typical requests:
- “How does WhatsApp work?”
- “How do I take photos and send them?”
- “What is this cloud thing?”
- “My storage is full”
What I show:
- Set up WhatsApp (add contacts, write messages)
- Take & send photos (also in groups)
- Install apps (from App Store/Play Store)
- Clear storage (transfer old photos to PC)
- Security (passwords, safe apps)
Example: A senior wanted to make video calls with his grandchildren via WhatsApp. We set it up together – now he calls weekly.
🌐 Internet & Email
Typical requests:
- “How do I write an email?”
- “What is safe on the internet?”
- “How do I recognize fraud?” (phishing)
- “Set up WiFi”
What I explain:
- Set up email program (Outlook, Thunderbird, Gmail)
- Safe browsing (which sites are trustworthy?)
- Recognize phishing (suspicious emails, fake shops)
- Online banking (safe & understandable)
- Connect WiFi (router password, select network)
Example: A customer almost fell for a fake shop. I now show how to recognize reputable online shops (imprint, HTTPS, reviews).
